2012 SHSRA QUEEN,
Miss MAKAYLA MOEN: Hello everybody. I have had the amazing opportunity to be the new Miss Saskatchewan high school rodeo. I would like to thank everyone who supported me through the competition esspecially to my family because I could not have done it with out them. Good job to Becca White who did a great job. I am excited to work with everybody this next season and I hope everybody has a great time at the rodeos. I followed the JR National rodeo in Gallup NM on ihigh.com and I would like to congratulate everyone who was competing there. Good job Tj Leoppky for finishing 13th in the Jr. Bull riding! I am looking forward to the high school finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. I would like to say good luck to everybody who will be competing, and I will see you there.
AUGUST, 2012 From the long road trip to Rock Springs Wyoming for the National High School Rodeo Finals, to the Canadian High School Finals on the prairies of Virden Manitoba, and with the new year of Saskatchewan High School Rodeo in full swing, the wheels never stop turning! Congratulations to all of the competitors that went to Nationals and Canadians. You all did a great job and showed everyone what Saskatchewan was made of! We had a great team assembled at the National Finals even though only Buck Moen made it into the short go. Everyone tried their best and had a lot of fun, which I believe is the best part of it all. Team Saskatchewan did amazing when it came time to compete at the Canadian Finals in Virden Manitoba. The High School team placed first in team points above all the other provinces. Congratulations to Cassandra Eaton for winning Girl's Cutting, Buck Moen for Winning Bareback, and to Taryn Pasonage who won Barrel Racing and got third in Pole Bending which entitled her for the High Point Cowgirl at the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals. I would also like to say Congratulations to everybody else who competed on our team at Canadians, you all did amazing and we are very happy to have you representing us. I was very proud of how everyone pulled together to have Whitewood rodeo run smoothly and quickly especially with the time restraints that were enforced upon us. I would like to thank everyone who helped out and continue to make rodeo's a great place to be. I also want to welcome all of our new members. I hope you have fun and enjoy our wonderful rodeo association, I look forward to getting to know you all. Good Luck to everyone at our upcoming rodeo's and I hope to see you there!
Miss SHSRA, Makayla Moen

December, 2011-
The days are getting shorter and our fall session of high school rodeo is coming to a close. We have had a successful first part of the rodeo year. The rookies and new junior high competitors are getting into the swing of things. The high school kids continue to strive for personal bests and top places. We have travelled to Wood Mountain, Arcola, Kennedy, Martensville and Melfort. All of these places have done and amazing job of hosting a rodeo and we look forward to coming there again next year.
I would once again like to thank Dakota Passy, the National High School Rodeo Queen, for coming to Martensville Rodeo to work with our girls that are interested in competing in the queen competition. It was a great opportunity for our competitors to get to know her better. A once in a life time experience to have a national high school queen visit, and we greatly appreciated it.
Being Miss Saskatchewan High School Rodeo queen has led me down the trail to some awesome experiences. During the Kennedy Rodeo, two amazing young girls took the advantage of running for Little Miss Kennedy Rodeo Queen. They each had to go around and sell tickets in order to win. I had the privilege of working and getting to know them, and crowning the princess and queen. Both of you girls did amazing. I was also recently able to attend a kid’s rodeo in Qu’Appelle. Thank you to Tanya Stover and Lisa Lockie for inviting me and allowing me to share this experience with 42 amazing young cowgirls and cowboys who spent the day competing in kids rodeo events. Look out rodeo world the next generation of rodeo kids are very talented athletes!
We are all very excited to be having a high school rodeo at Agribition this year. Come out and support the youth of High School Rodeo on Monday November 19 at the Brandt Centre. Our new “build a cowboy” events will be a great show for all who can attend. I look forward to the last rodeo of the fall season, and an opportunity to meet some new “rodeo family” at agribition. Until then, we have a month to rosin our ropes and get those horses rode down…… see you there!

Miss SHSRA, Shayana McDermit, June, 2011
Hi everyone! My name is Shayana McDermit and I am the 2011- 2012 Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Queen. I went from the Saskatchewan Finals Rodeo to the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Gallup New Mexico from June 26- July 2, where I was able to help cheer on the 10 contestants that went down there to compete. The Junior High team members worked hard and made Saskatchewan proud. A special congratulation goes out to Riley Hayes and Tyce McLeod for finishing 4th overall in the team roping.
Following my trip to Gallup, I had the privilege of representing Saskatchewan at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette, Wyoming from July 17-23. While down there, I participated in the queen contest which was an experience that changed my life. I met many new people, learned so much about myself, and made memories that will never leave me. I would like to extend a big thank you to the Saskatchewan rodeo team and their families for all the help and support they have given me. You guys are all amazing! Congratulations to Kal Klovansky for qualifying for the Short Go in steer wrestling.
This year we were also happy to see Connor Sylvestre and Kaci Heagy go down to compete at Silver State in Nevada. Thanks for putting Saskatchewan on the map at the Silver State competition.
We are proud of each and every contestant that competed in Gillette High School Finals, Silver State, and Gallup Junior High Finals. Your overall dedication to the sport of rodeo is an inspiration to me and all those around you.
As the nationals wrap up we are reorganizing our trailers, grabbing a couple more hay bales and heading east to Virden, Manitoba for the Canadian Junior High and High School Finals. Our new rodeo season starts on the 20th of August and I would just like to say I am looking forward to meeting each and every new member. Good luck in the year to come!

Farewell! From Miss Erica . . .
The past year has been a great experience. I have done so many things that I never imagined myself doing. A little over a year ago there was no way I was going to be running for queen. But Kathy Slade convinced me to and I haven’t regretted it one bit. There was a lot of work, but it was all worth it. I am more confident when approaching people and enjoy getting involved with organizations. I feel more confident in myself now than I did before, and I’m not afraid to stand out.
I couldn’t have gotten this far without all the support I received. I had all the help I could possible wish for throughout my year as reigning queen. Thanks to Joyce Dickson and Tammy McLeod for lending me jewellery, Alison Ellis for giving me tips here and there, and Bari and Demi Phillips for lending me shirts and buckles. And my O’Canada singers and Cowboys’ Prayer boys, I can’t forget you! Our 2010 princess, Cayla Holbrook has worked with me all year and it has been a blast. Everybody who helped me sell 50/50 tickets, and everyone who carried a flag for me, even if it was just once, I appreciate it so much. My family was a huge help all year; hauling me to Nationals, Canadians, and all the other rodeos. They all pitched and helped me get the job done. I have to give a big thank to my sister, Vanessa, for helping me so much this year. She helped me out the weekend I was running for SHSRA queen, at Nationals, and all through the past season. If I asked her to do something, she did it without complaint, even if she didn’t want to. She helped me saddle horses, sell 50/50 tickets, find flag carriers, carry flags, hand out flags, pick out my outfits (which there is a lot of as queen), and just support me throughout the whole season. I can’t thank her enough.
Kathy Slade did an awesome job again this year of putting together the queen competition, and we all had a fun weekend at finals. All in all, I had an awesome time representing Saskatchewan as the 2010 SHSRA queen, but it is time to let someone else have the same opportunities I did. Congratulations Shayana McDermit on being crowned the 2011 Miss Saskatchewan. I hope you have as good of a year as I did!
I look forward to my grade 12 year to help out Shayana and Raelene with whatever they need. Hope everyone has a great summer, and see you in the fall!
Sincerly,
Erica Friesen
